What are ASI's?
Advanced Study Institutes are two-week-long advanced-level tutorial courses on a subject given by lecturers of international standing. The purpose of this ASI is to provide an interactive and interdisciplinary forum for novel and advanced approaches to UXO detection and mitigation. The forum will provide opportunities for young scientists and engineers to learn more about these problem areas, and the vital role played by new mathematical and scientific insights, from some of the outstanding contributors to the state of the art. We would like to thank our generous sponsors.
Who are the lecturers?
See the list of lecturers and the lecture schedule.
Who can attend?
Scientists and/or research students of all nationalities, who have either specialized in the field or who have an appropriate advanced scientific background.
When is it?
The two weeks from Sunday 20 July to Saturday 2 August, 2008.
Where is it?
At the Il Ciocco Resort Hotel, in Tuscany, Italy. Directions and prices. Check out the pictures we took at the 2000 conference.
How much does it cost?
There is no fee for participants from universities or government. The fee for participants from industry will be $US 200. Everyone will have to pay travel and living expenses.
Can I get funded?
If you are from a NATO Country or Partner Country, you may be able to obtain grants towards travel and living expenses by applying to the Director. We can give limited support to participants from universities in NATO and Eastern European countries. We will give preference to those with recently awarded PhD. degrees and others who do not have a realistic possibility of support from other sources.
How many may attend?
Besides the 15 principal lecturers, we must strictly limit the number of participants to 85. We can accommodate only a few from outside of NATO/Eastern Europe. We expect those selected to attend the full two weeks of the Institute.
How do I apply?
You must apply to the Director.
When are abstracts due?
If you are a possible poster-session contributor, send your abstract by 30 April 2008.
By when will you know?
We will email to you our decisions about your applications and abstracts by 1 May 2008.
